Effect of the Added Acyl Homoserine Lactones on Separated Free-Living Marine Bacteria as a Model of Quorum Sensing

چکیده

Quorum sensing is a communication system by which bacteria use signal molecules to induce physiological response. In natural marine environments, quorum suspected occur in regions with high cell densities. Free-living bacteria, however, are largely believed exist at concentrations too low make of density-dependent quorum-sensing system. Due so-called ‘free-living’ inhabiting gels composed exopolymeric substances occurring an operationally defined colloidal fraction, it possible that would also this fraction. study, signaling were collected from water, separated, and concentrated as some organic matter. Their identification Agrobacterium tumefaciens assay indicated the presence AHLs. fall 2002 spring 2003, free-living (single cells) fraction bacterioplankton was sampled separated. Various AHLs added these disperse populations (109 cells/L). The studied bacterial communities responded change thymidine incorporation. results discussed existence active reaction even sparse gels. That there response so great significance for environmental sciences.

Imidazolines as Non-Classical Bioisosteres of N-Acyl Homoserine Lactones and Quorum Sensing Inhibitors

A series of selected 2-substituted imidazolines were synthesized in moderate to excellent yields by a modification of protocols reported in the literature. They were evaluated as potential non-classical bioisosteres of AHL with the aim of counteracting bacterial pathogenicity. Imidazolines 18a, 18e and 18f at various concentrations reduced the violacein production by Chromobacterium violaceum, ...

Synthesis and biological evaluation of triazole-containing N-acyl homoserine lactones as quorum sensing modulators.

Many bacterial species are capable of assessing their local population densities through a cell-cell signaling mechanism termed quorum sensing (QS). This intercellular communication process is mediated by small molecule or peptide ligands and their cognate protein receptors. Numerous pathogens use QS to initiate virulence once they achieve a threshold cell number on a host. Consequently, approa...

Pseudomonas cremoricolorata Strain ND07 Produces N-acyl Homoserine Lactones as Quorum Sensing Molecules

Quorum sensing (QS) is a bacterial cell-to-cell communication system controlling QS-mediated genes which is synchronized with the population density. The regulation of specific gene activity is dependent on the signaling molecules produced, namely N-acyl homoserine lactones (AHLs). We report here the identification and characterization of AHLs produced by bacterial strain ND07 isolated from a M...

Global and Phylogenetic Distribution of Quorum Sensing Signals, Acyl Homoserine Lactones, in the Family of Vibrionaceae

Bacterial quorum sensing (QS) and the corresponding signals, acyl homoserine lactones (AHLs), were first described for a luminescent Vibrio species. Since then, detailed knowledge has been gained on the functional level of QS; however, the abundance of AHLs in the family of Vibrionaceae in the environment has remained unclear. Three hundred and one Vibrionaceae strains were collected on a globa...

Possible quorum sensing in marine snow bacteria: production of acylated homoserine lactones by Roseobacter strains isolated from marine snow.

We report here, for the first time, that bacteria associated with marine snow produce communication signals involved in quorum sensing in gram-negative bacteria. Four of 43 marine microorganisms isolated from marine snow were found to produce acylated homoserine lactones (AHLs) in well diffusion and thin-layer chromatographic assays based on the Agrobacterium tumefaciens reporter system. Three ...
